Tutorial Tuesday Puffy Sleeved Girls Shirt

As I was going through this girls closets I found this long sleeved shirt from last winter. It still fit my daughter but she had managed to stain the ends of the sleeves. I decided to see if I could remake it into a nice shirt for summer.

I started with a long sleeved shirt. Notice the stained ends? YUCK!

I measured the sleeve and cut it right at the halfway point.

Then I put a hem around the bottom sleeve. Once I was finished with the hem I used some elastic thread and made 2 stitches up the center of each sleeve. If you are nervous about using elastic thread don't be, it is really very simple. Disney at Ruffles and Stuff has a great tutorial on shirring that will get you started.

Here is the finished product. A cute and sweet puffy sleeved shirt perfect for summer!

  1. I think that is one of the cutest things you have done. I might even do it with one of my long sleeve shirts.

  7. "I used some elastic thread and made 2 stitches up the center of each sleeve." Looks like you're missing some steps? I don't see how you got from a plain short sleeve to a ruched puff sleeve, sorry.
